Two Markets, One Delivery Route

Walkerton sits at an unusual intersection. On one side, the Municipality of Brockton generates substantial annual gross farm receipts, beef and dairy and grain operations that have been the bone-and-marrow of Bruce County since the rail came through. On the other side, forty minutes northwest at the Lake Huron shore, Bruce Power is in the middle of the largest nuclear-construction wave Canada has seen in a generation. Unit 4 refurbishment broke ground in February 2025. The Bruce C Project signed a major pre-development agreement in 2026 that will build out 18,900 construction jobs through 2030.

The container demand around Walkerton reflects both sides at once. A grain farmer outside Mildmay calls our yard about a Wind & Watertight 40ft for hay storage. Two days later a contractor working a Bruce Power tier-2 subcontract calls about a one-trip 20ft for a job-site office at the East Ridge Business Park. The bins go up the same Hwy 24 corridor on the same tilt-deck truck. The yard at 90 Morton Avenue East in Brantford serves both buyers without distinction, and that flexibility is one of the reasons Bruce County orders keep coming back to us.

Brantford to Walkerton: The 2h 20min Reality

For straight equipment shelter, where cosmetic wear does not matter and the bin lives behind the barn through every season, a Wind & Watertight 40ft is usually the right answer. Surface rust, paint variance, the occasional dent from a forklift in a previous life. None of it matters when the bin is holding spare seed drills, a pallet of vet supplies, and the auger that came off the combine last fall. What Bruce Power Contractors Actually Buy

The contractor side of the Walkerton market is a different conversation. Most of the work coming through Bruce Power’s tier-2 and tier-3 subcontractors is precision industrial: pipefitters, welders, electrical specialists, instrumentation and controls. The job-site infrastructure they need is correspondingly more specific than what a farmer needs.

The most common contractor purchase is a one-trip 20ft container modified into a job-site office. ESA-certified electrical, two windows, a personnel door, insulation, and a small HVAC unit. The bin lives at a staging yard near the work site for the duration of the contract (often six to eighteen months on a Bruce Power piece) and gets relocated to the next project after. One-trip grade is essentially new condition, single ocean crossing from the Asian manufacturer, original factory paint and clean panels. It is the right starting point for any unit that will be visible from the road or branded with company livery. Modification scope drives the final price, so we walk through the full spec list before quoting: electrical load, window count and placement, insulation depth, HVAC capacity, lockbox configuration. Every line on the quote is something you decided you needed.

The second most common is a 40ft High Cube one-trip used as a tool storage bin. Bruce Power site security takes container locking and tracking seriously, so the bin needs an integrated lockbox over the cam-lock handles and ideally a secondary deadbolt. We add lockbox modifications in the yard before the bin ships. The HC’s extra foot of internal headroom (9’6″ exterior, 8’10” usable inside) matters when you are stacking welding equipment, scaffolding, and consumables on shelving units rather than dropping pallets directly to the floor.

The third pattern, less common but increasing as Bruce C ramps up, is multi-bin orders. A larger contractor will order three to six containers at once for a single staging yard, mixing 20ft and 40ft units for a combination of office, lunchroom, tool storage, and parts cage functions. We coordinate multi-bin deliveries on the same truck where possible, and we can sometimes deliver a five-bin staging-yard buildout within the same week as the order if the inventory is in our Brantford yards. Original factory paint, clean undercarriage, doors that operate cleanly, no rust beyond what an ocean crossing puts on any steel surface. Functionally new. Right grade if the bin will be visible from the road, branded for a business, used as a job-site office, or modified into living space or retail. Premium pricing reflects the like-new condition.

Cargo Worthy (CW). Used containers that have passed inspection for international shipping certification. Multiple ocean crossings, surface rust on panels, paint variance, occasional small dents, but the structural frame and the floor have been inspected for heavy-duty load capacity. Right grade if you are exporting cargo, running high-density industrial storage, or putting the bin somewhere cosmetic wear does not matter. Mid-range pricing.

Wind & Watertight (WWT). Used containers guaranteed weather-resistant and rodent-proof but no longer certified for further international shipping. Visible cosmetic wear, surface rust on most panels, occasional dents, faded paint. Doors close and seal. Right grade for farm storage, household renovation storage, equipment shelter, anything stationary on land where cosmetic wear is not a concern. Most of the Bruce County farm orders are WWT because it is the honest fit for the use case.

As-Is. The fourth grade. We carry it but rarely recommend it. Older units with structural questions: floor damage, frame issues, or door problems. Sold at the lowest price point on our yard for non-storage uses like cladding, scrap metal value, or container-stacking structural reuse. If you are buying a bin you are going to cut up for parts, an As-Is unit is the right answer. If you are buying for storage, do not buy As-Is. We will tell you the same thing on the phone.

The Facebook Trap

This part of the page is the part most container suppliers will not write. We see it every week, and it has been hammering Bruce County buyers in particular over the past eighteen months. A Facebook Marketplace listing pops up offering a “one-trip 40ft” at a price well below market. The seller has a profile that looks reasonable. Pictures of containers in some yard somewhere. A request for a partial deposit “to hold the unit.” Two weeks later the bin has not arrived, the seller has gone dark, and the buyer is calling us asking what to do.

The pattern is consistent enough that we recognise it now from the first sentence of the call. Many people call us saying they can get a bin less on Facebook. Two weeks later they call back, scammed. Don’t fall for it. The deposits are gone, the listings disappear, and the buyers have no recourse because the operation was never registered, never traceable, never real.

The honest answer about pricing in Bruce County is straightforward: pricing scales by grade, by size, and by the modification scope. WWT is the most affordable used grade. Cargo Worthy steps up.
