WWT is the workhorse grade of the Ontario container market. WWT is NOT re-certified for further international shipping. The CSC plate may be expired. The structural floor and frame have not been re-inspected to IICL spec. That is the cost saving.
For stationary storage on land, WWT does exactly what its name says for 15 to 20 years. Most Ontario farm storage, household reno overflow, workshop shells, equipment shelters, and seasonal cottage storage runs on WWT-grade steel. A container’s lifespan clock starts on delivery day, not at the factory. The most common buyer error is treating grade as factory age. One-trip is not “new” in the sense that a one-trip bin manufactured in 2022 and delivered in 2024 has 25 years left from 2024, not 25 years left from 2022. The IICL-grade and WWT-grade clocks are similar but more nuanced: the years of remaining life refer to expected service life from the date you actually take the container, assuming standard placement.
That changes the cost math. A WWT 20ft delivered to a Brockville cottage in May 2026 should reach 2041 to 2046 before it stops being wind and watertight. A one-trip 20ft delivered the same week should reach 2051 to 2056 in good condition. The grade gap is roughly a decade of additional service life, paid for up front.
Why “year zero” matters for resale
If you buy a WWT 20ft in 2026 and try to resell it as WWT in 2036, you are now selling something the market will price as a 10-year-newer WWT, not a fresh WWT.
