Coldture Review: The Toronto Cold Plunge and Sauna Brand, Read Honestly

This review is written by a shipping container yard in Brantford, Ontario. We are not affiliated with Coldture, we receive nothing from them or from Costco, and we do not sell cold plunges, saunas or anything that competes with one. What we sell is the steel room that a plunge and a sauna end up living in when a backyard goes from a tub on the deck to a recovery building, which is the last third of this page and the only place we have a stake. Everything about the company and its products below comes from coldture.com, its about and warranty pages, and the Costco.ca listings, read on September 15, 2026. Where we describe a limit, it is one the company’s own specifications or warranty terms make plain; we make no claims about how the company conducts itself and none about what cold water does for a body. Who Coldture Is

Coldture was founded in 2021 by Daniel Mazour and Michael Spivak, began with prototypes tested in Toronto, and now designs, builds and tests its products at its own facility in Vaughan, Ontario. The company describes itself as one company for cold, heat and light: cold plunges and the chillers that run them, wood-burning, infrared and hybrid saunas in red cedar, and red light panels, masks and mats. It says more than 40,000 people use its systems daily, lists partnerships with Team Canada and the ATP Tour, and, the fact that matters most to an Ontario buyer, sells through Costco, whose warehouse and online listings carry the Classic tub and the Ultra Barrel bundles. It is a young company, four years of in-house engineering by its own account, which cuts both ways and is worth holding in mind through the warranty section. The Lineup, Decoded

The chiller is the product. Every plunge in the range runs on it, it holds water anywhere from 3 to 40 degrees, it filters continuously and sanitizes with ozone, and it plugs into a standard household outlet, which is the reason a Coldture plunge can go on a deck without an electrician’s visit that a hot tub needs. The hot tub in a container build is the page where that electrical difference is spelled out for the heavier appliance.

Strengths First

The strengths are real. The products are designed, built and tested in Canada, at a facility an hour from most of the buyers, which matters for parts, service and the practical question of whether the maker has seen a February. The XTREME plunge is rated to minus 30, which is the honest Ontario number, and the PRO lite to minus 10, which is a real three-season figure rather than a marketing one. The chiller both cools and heats, so the same unit that holds 3 degrees in July holds 40 in a shoulder season and doubles as a warm soak, and it runs on ordinary household power. The sanitation is continuous filtration plus ozone rather than a chemical routine. The company sells the whole system, cold, heat and light, under one warranty desk, which is rarer than it sounds; most backyard setups are three brands and three phone numbers. The outdoor sauna shells carry a five-year warranty, and the saunas are red cedar with a named Finnish heater in the wood-burning model. Delivery is curbside across Canada or white glove, in-stock orders ship in three to five business days, and Costco distribution puts the product where a buyer can see one and return one through a warehouse rather than a courier. The Documented Trade-Offs

Five, all from the company’s own pages. The warranty on cold plunges, chillers and indoor saunas is one year, extended to 18 months on the Costco bundle listing, which is short for an appliance with a compressor that runs daily outdoors; the outdoor sauna shells get five and the red light panels two. The chiller warranty is conditional on a 30-day filter change cycle, which is a reasonable maintenance rule and a rule most owners will break by the second winter, so the filters are a subscription in all but name. Electrical is never included in the price of a sauna, assembly is quoted separately, and the white-glove option is the one that includes carrying the thing to the yard, so the delivered price is not the installed price. The company is four years old, with the engineering record that implies and without the decade of field failures a buyer can read about; that is a fact about youth rather than quality, and it is why the warranty length matters more here than with an older maker. And the plunge itself is a tub with a chiller: the insulation, the lid and the site do most of the work in an Ontario winter, and a unit rated for minus 30 still needs a dry, level, drained spot with an outlet within reach of the cord, which the listings assume and the buyer supplies. What an Ontario Winter Asks of a Plunge

Three things, and the range answers them differently. The water has to not freeze when the chiller is off, which is the difference between the XTREME at minus 30 and the portable tubs, which are sheltered-outdoor products that come inside or get drained when the deep cold arrives. The chiller has to run in the cold, and the company’s operating range on the Costco listing, 14 to 120 Fahrenheit, is minus 10 to 49 Celsius, which covers a heated garage or a sheltered porch and does not cover an open deck in January for the portable bundles. And the user has to get from the house to the water and back, which is why the plunge and the sauna end up under one roof: a cold plunge is a thirty-second walk from a hot room, and a thirty-second walk across an Ontario yard in February is the reason most backyard setups get used from May to October and then not. Buying Through Costco Against Direct

The Costco route gives a buyer the warehouse’s own return and satisfaction policies on top of the maker’s warranty, an 18-month term on the bundle listing against 12 direct, and the chance to see a unit on the floor at some locations; it gives the buyer the bundle as Costco specified it, which may not be the model the yard actually wants. The direct route gives the full range, the XTREME and the PRO plunges that Costco does not list, the saunas, white-glove delivery and the accessory pairings, and the company’s own delivery timeline. For a first portable plunge in a garage or on a covered deck, the Costco bundle is the sensible buy; for a built-in outdoor plunge that stays out through winter, only direct has the model. The Site: Power, Water, Drainage and a Roof

A plunge needs four things the product page leaves to you. Power: a grounded outdoor outlet within the cord’s reach, on its own circuit if a sauna shares the yard, installed by an electrician, because the extension cord across the lawn is the plan that ends badly. Water: a hose to fill it and a plan for the 300 to 400 litres that come out of it at every change, which on a deck means a floor drain or a downhill hose and in a room means a drain in the floor. Drainage and level: a plunge full of water is heavy, and a deck or a pad has to carry it level or the chiller’s plumbing sits at the wrong angle. And a roof: a lid keeps the leaves and the sun out, and a roof over the whole setup is what turns a plunge from a summer toy into a year-round routine. Which Model for Which Buyer

The Classic or Barrel bundle for the buyer starting out, in a garage, a basement or a covered deck, brought in or drained before the deep cold. The PRO plunge lite for the buyer with a three-season deck who wants a built-in look and a minus 10 rating. The XTREME for the buyer whose plunge lives outside in Ontario year-round with no roof over it. The PRO plunge for a gym or a finished recovery room. And a sauna from the same range for the buyer who wants one phone number, with the wood-burning XTREME for a cottage without a big circuit and the HYBRID or PRO for a suburban yard with one. Where the Container Fits

A shipping container is the recovery room, and it is the one line on this page we can speak to from the yard. A 20-foot box on a gravel pad in the backyard, foamed with two to three inches of closed-cell spray, lined, lit, with a floor drain cut and plumbed, a mini-split for the shoulder seasons, and a dedicated circuit for the chiller and a second for a sauna heater, is a year-round wellness building 8 feet wide and 19 feet long inside: a two-person sauna at one end, a plunge at the other, a bench and the red light in between, and a door that locks. It takes what the site section above asks for, power, drainage, level and a roof, and delivers them as one object set in an afternoon. What the container gives that a deck does not is winter. The plunge inside a heated, insulated box is the indoor PRO unit with a lid, not the minus-30 problem, so the chiller works at the temperature it was designed for, the water never freezes, and the walk from the sauna to the water is eight feet in a warm room. The steel floor carries a full tub without a second thought once the load is spread, the walls are steel and take a drain, a fan and a vent without framing, and the door locks, which matters for a chiller that costs what a chiller costs. Passive against mechanical ventilation is the page for the humidity a sauna and a plunge put into a sealed room, and it is the detail that decides whether the box smells like cedar or like a locker room in year two.

The limits, plainly. A container is a corridor 8 feet wide; a six-person wood-burning sauna and a barrel plunge do not both fit, and the XTREME sauna is a building of its own. The conversion is real work: foam, drain, electrical, liner and a mini-split are a contractor’s month and cost more than the plunge does. And a foamed box in a suburban backyard is a steel box unless it is clad, which the container against a traditional shed page weighs honestly. For the buyer it suits, the room starts from a one-trip 20-foot dry unit from the single-voyage rows at 90 Morton Avenue East, because every cut assumes a square, clean box; the modification shop at the yard foams it, cuts the door, the drain and the vents before it leaves; and it lands on a gravel pad anywhere in the delivery area across the province in one to three days with payment on delivery. Who Should Buy What

Buy the Coldture Classic or Barrel bundle through Costco if this is a first plunge for a garage, basement or covered deck and the 18-month term and the warehouse return policy matter to you. Buy the XTREME direct if the plunge lives outside all year with no roof, and read the filter rule before the warranty card goes in a drawer. Buy a Coldture sauna if one phone number for cold and heat is worth more to you than shopping the sauna market separately, which the outdoor saunas guide lays out. And buy the container as the room if the plan is year-round, the yard has a spot for a pad and a truck, and the budget for the conversion is real; if it is a summer tub on a deck, the box is more building than the plan needs, and we will say so.
