Shipping Containers for Sale in Trenton, Air Force Town

Buying a new or used shipping container in Trenton starts with the town it lands in. Trenton is part of the City of Quinte West. The city formed in 1998, when the former city of Trenton, the village of Frankford and the townships of Sidney and Murray amalgamated. CFB Trenton, home of 8 Wing, sits on the east side of town. The Canadian Encyclopedia calls 8 Wing Canada’s busiest air base. The RCAF’s own history says the base officially opened in August 1931 and describes a large modern fleet of transport and search and rescue aircraft.

Highway 401 means something extra here. When Canadians killed in Afghanistan came home, they were flown to CFB Trenton and then driven along the 401 to the coroner’s office in Toronto. The Canadian War Museum records that crowds began gathering on the overpasses in 2002, and the stretch was officially renamed the Highway of Heroes in 2007. Our tilt-deck trucks heading east drive that same highway on the last leg of a Trenton delivery, just in the other direction.

A shipping container is a steel ISO box built to carry cargo across oceans, which is why it makes dry, lockable storage on a lot in Quinte West. People here call it a sea can, a c-can or a conex box depending on where they learned the trade. If you spent a career around military kit, check it like anything signed out to you. Look at the floor boards, the welds at the corner castings, the door gaskets and the locking bars. Every unit Van Blanc sells carries its own container number. We’ll photograph that box and its CSC plate before it leaves Brantford, so you can judge the shipping containers we have for sale one by one.

8 Wing Construction and Jobsite Storage

Contractor demand around Trenton follows the money going into 8 Wing. On July 7, 2025, Quinte News reported ground broken on 850 million dollars in work at 8 Wing. The work makes Trenton the eastern hub for the new CC-330 Husky tanker-transport fleet. The first phase covers runway, apron and taxiway resurfacing, a new two-bay hangar, a training facility, a fuel depot and a ramp extension. The same report says up to 1,000 jobs will be supported during the eight-year construction period.

Housing is moving as well. InQuinte reported on May 8, 2026 that 92 residential units were under construction in Phase 1 of the base housing plan. Requests for proposals were going out for 384 more in a second phase, and the three-year spending forecast for Trenton stood at 165 million dollars.

For the trades working those sites, a 20ft container locked up beside a housing build keeps the expensive tools on site overnight. They stop riding home in the truck every evening. On a commercial build with a tight footprint, a 40ft high cube for lay-down storage gives you a full foot more headroom than a standard 40. That matters once shelving goes in. At Van Blanc, Wind & Watertight is the grade we’d point a jobsite to first. It’s sealed and lockable, and the dents don’t bother anyone. Cargo Worthy adds a current CSC re-certification, so the box can go back on a ship later. One-Trip is a new box, one voyage old, with the longest service life ahead of it and the best resale when the job ends.

Posting Season and Household Storage

Canadian Forces families move on the military’s Active Posting Season, and summer is the crush. A 2023 CANFORGEN quoted by Canadian Military Family Magazine named July and August as the peak demand months for household-goods moves. A family arriving at 8 Wing from Comox, Cold Lake, Petawawa or Halifax can land before the permanent house is sorted out. A family leaving faces the reverse problem: belongings to store or sell inside a short window. Our side-by-side of a driveway container and a storage locker covers that choice.

A 20ft storage container on the driveway or a gravel pad holds a household’s boxes, the bikes and the barbecue while the paperwork catches up. Sea cans for sale in Trenton land in 1 to 3 days from a confirmed order, which helps when the move-in date is fixed. Van Blanc sells containers outright. We don’t rent or lease. The box is yours to keep through the next tour, or to sell it on to the next family that follows you onto the base. If the driveway is short, a 10ft unit for a tight townhouse pad is the other option worth pricing.

Plenty of members stay in Quinte West after they hang up the uniform. Their needs look like any rural property owner’s: a workshop, a home for the tractor, the overflow from a full garage. A One-Trip 20ft is the right base when the box will be cut for a man door and a window. Van Blanc’s crew does that door, window and vent work before the box leaves Brantford.

Trent River and Bay of Quinte Storage

Trenton sits where the Trent River meets the Bay of Quinte, at the Lake Ontario end of the Trent-Severn Waterway. Parks Canada describes the waterway as a 386 km route, first opened in 1922, connecting Lake Ontario and Georgian Bay. The historic site closes to the public from Thanksgiving to Victoria Day. That’s roughly when boats along the river come out of the water and need somewhere dry to wait.

A Van Blanc 20ft sea can on a gravel pad behind a riverside home takes a small boat on its trailer, the outboard, the life jackets and the deck furniture. Storage containers in Trenton set up this way hold the summer gear through the freeze. For a longer trailer, a standard 40ft shipping container gives you 39 ft 6 in of floor. The Trent and the bay are fresh water, so there’s no salt spray working on the steel. What hurts any waterfront box is standing moisture, and a drained pad plus a healthy door gasket handle most of that. Add a pair of vents in the side walls if the contents are damp when they go in.

Christian LeBlanc on Military Buyers

“Trenton is one of the places where the relationship outlasts the posting. We deliver to a corporal in 2018, his family rotates out to Comox in 2021, and a sergeant from Cold Lake who knows him through the network calls us in 2022 because the corporal told him to. The Air Force community is tight, and the Trenton chapter of it has worked with our yard long enough that we are part of how new arrivals find their bearings. The drive from Brantford is three hours each way. The relationship is the same one we have with customers fifteen minutes from our gate.”

Christian LeBlanc, second-generation operator. Grew up in the family trade and works the yards in Brantford with Paul.

Paul LeBlanc started Van Blanc, the family container business, in 1995 with four decades in Asian trade behind him, and he has 19 years in containers. Christian, his son, has 4 years of direct, hands-on experience in the trade and grew up around it, travelling to Asia with his father from the age of 15. For a Trenton buyer more than three hours away, that means you can reach the Van Blanc family at 519-754-6844. We’ll walk a unit with you in the rows at 90 Morton Avenue East, or on a video call with the camera on the container number.

Trenton Shipping Containers by Grade and Use

Which grade fits which Trenton job

  • 20ft Wind & Watertight: sealed, lockable used steel (see what to check on a used box). It suits a posting-season driveway, Trent River off-season storage, or a tool cage at a base-adjacent build.
  • 20ft Cargo Worthy: used, structurally re-inspected and CSC re-certified, so it can ship again (our plain-language grade definitions spell out each one). It fits working contractor inventory and veterans who want a certified box.
  • 20ft One-Trip: a new box with one voyage behind it, the cleanest base for a workshop or guest cabin conversion and the strongest resale.
  • 40ft High Cube Wind & Watertight: lay-down storage at 8 Wing-area builds, two households’ worth of goods, or long waterfront gear.
  • As-Is: the lowest grade, sold with its flaws named, for buyers who know exactly what they’ll use it for.
  • 20ft and 40ft High Cube Refrigerated: insulated reefers for cold storage; see the reefer row in the size table below.

Trenton has more names for this box than most towns. Serving members and veterans often say conex box, a word carried over from military supply chains, and our page on where the conex name comes from covers why. Quinte West homeowners tend to say shipping container or sea can, and on the base jobs you’ll hear c-can. Same steel, same doors, same corner castings. Online it often shows up as one word, seacan.

Container Sizes and Inside Dimensions

Van Blanc’s shipping container sizes for sale to Trenton run from a 10ft unit to the 40ft high cube, plus 20ft and 40ft high cube reefers. The inside figures below come from the spec tables on our own product pages, and the 20ft reefer specification page supplies the cold-storage row. Inside width is the sea can measurement people forget: every dry box here gives you 7 ft 8 in wall to wall, not 8 ft.

ContainerInside lengthInside width x heightDoor opening (w x h)Trenton fit

By volume, the 20ft holds 1,172 cubic feet, the standard 40ft 2,395 and the 40ft high cube 2,689. So the 40 roughly doubles the 20, and the high cube adds headroom on top. A 20ft weighs 2,260 kg (4,982 lb) empty, which is what your pad carries before anything goes in. For one-voyage boxes specifically, our page on buying a brand-new container in Ontario sets out what the new grade adds.

Three Trenton Orders, Sized Up

Here is how we’d size three situations that come with living near 8 Wing and the river. They’re fit guidance, written for this page.

The family arriving on posting: a 20ft Wind & Watertight or Cargo Worthy on the driveway, doors facing the house so loading doesn’t mean carrying boxes around the steel. Used shipping containers in Trenton in either grade get their container number and CSC plate photographed before they leave Brantford. If the street is fussy about looks, a One-Trip in a clean colour costs more and looks the part, and it sells on fastest when the next posting comes.

The contractor on a base-adjacent build: a 40ft high cube Wind & Watertight with a welded steel lockbox over the padlock, so a bolt cutter has nothing to bite. Shelving down one wall still leaves an aisle you can walk with your arms full, and the extra foot of height lets the shelves go higher.

The Trent-Severn property: a 20ft on a gravel pad behind the house, with two vents added at our yards to cut condensation through the freeze-thaw months. The boat trailer goes in tongue-first, so the outboard sits by the doors where you can check it without unloading everything.

Trenton Delivery: 269 km in 1 to 3 Days

Trenton is 269 km from the Van Blanc yards in east Brantford by road. OSRM’s routing puts it at about 3 hours 15 minutes of car time on the 403, the QEW and the 401. Our page on how Ontario delivery works from our yards covers the truck side. A loaded tilt-deck runs slower than a car, and Trenton still gets the same 1 to 3 day delivery we give every region of Ontario, counted from order confirmation. Every quote comes with a real lead time, not a hopeful one.

How the 1 to 3 days are used

The days around the drive itself go to fitting your drop into an eastbound truck. They also absorb the 401 through the GTA, winter weather on the delivery end, and any site detail your photos raised. You get the delivery date with the quote, and the quote is written for your address.

Van Blanc prices freight per kilometre from Brantford and quotes it together with the container and placement, so the number on the quote is the number at the door. For shipping container prices in Trenton, send the size and your postal code through the quote form. Nobody adds a fuel surcharge on delivery day. Because Trenton is a little closer to us than Belleville, its freight sits a little below Belleville’s and well below Kingston’s or Cornwall’s.

People ask who has the cheapest shipping containers. The cheapest one is the box with the lowest all-in number for the grade you want: container, delivery and placement together, the way a Van Blanc quote is written. Our page on how price steps up by grade explains the ladder. A price that undercuts every Ontario yard by a wide margin is usually the scam pattern described further down, not a bargain.

Distances and Site Prep Around the Bay

Quinte West covers a lot of ground, from the Trenton waterfront up to Frankford and Batawa, so the run varies by address. The distances below are OSRM road routes from our east Brantford yards, with free-flow car time; a loaded truck adds to it.

DestinationRoad distanceCar time

Trenton269.2 km3 h 15 min
Batawa271.3 km3 h 17 min
CFB Trenton (8 Wing)271.9 km3 h 19 min

Shipping containers don’t need a concrete foundation for storage. They need a level, firm spot that drains, with support under the corner castings. Compacted gravel, concrete blocks or a slab you already have all keep the floor out of wet ground. Our guide to laying gravel under a sea can walks through the first option. Permits are managed by your municipality, so ask the local building or planning department before you order.

For the truck, plan a clear path about 12 ft across and at least 14 ft of overhead room where the box comes off the deck. Check for wires and branches as well as the gate. Our page on the clearance a delivery truck needs has more detail. When you ask for a quote, send these and the answer comes back faster:

  • the full Quinte West address, including any rural route or base housing detail
  • size and grade, or the job, if you’d like us to pick
  • photos of the lane, the gate and the spot, with the door direction you want
  • anything low overhead, soft ground, or a tight turn

Facebook Sea Can Scams Near 8 Wing

Families new to Trenton make tempting targets for the Facebook Marketplace container scam. The need is urgent, the move-in date is fixed, and there’s no neighbour yet to ask about a seller. The pattern doesn’t change: a listing well under what real yards charge, then a deposit by e-transfer. The delivery date is set far enough out that the money is gone before anyone notices the seller is. Our walk-through of the Marketplace sea can con, step by step is worth five minutes.

Many people call us saying they can get a bin for 1,000 dollars less on Facebook. Two weeks later they call back saying they got scammed. Run any listing through Van Blanc’s free check for a sea can listing before you send money. Then check four things. Is there a street address you can drive to? Ours is 90 Morton Avenue East in Brantford, open Monday to Thursday 9:30 to 5 and Friday 9:30 to 4. Will the seller show you the exact unit by container number, on a video call if you’re 269 km away? Will they photograph the CSC plate? And will they take payment on delivery? We do all four.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a 20ft shipping container cost in Trenton, Ontario?

A 20ft in Trenton is priced by grade, and each grade buys something different. As-Is is the entry price with its flaws named, and Wind & Watertight is sealed storage steel. Cargo Worthy adds a current CSC re-certification, and One-Trip is a new box with the longest life and best resale. The steel market and that week’s stock move it too. Freight for the 269-kilometre Eastern Ontario run is per kilometre, quoted with the box. Call 519-754-6844 for a real number.

How long does delivery take from Brantford to Trenton?

Delivery to Trenton takes 1 to 3 days from order confirmation, the same as the rest of Ontario. Trenton is 269 km by road, about 3 hours 15 minutes of car time on the 403, the QEW and the 401, and a loaded truck takes longer. The buffer covers 401 traffic, weather and any site detail we need to plan around.

Do you serve active-duty Air Force families relocating to 8 Wing?

Yes. We sell and deliver containers to families arriving at or leaving 8 Wing, with a 20ft the usual fit for household goods while permanent housing is arranged. July and August are the busy posting months, so call early in the spring if you can. Delivery takes 1 to 3 days.

What container is right for a base-adjacent contractor jobsite?

For a residential build near 8 Wing, a 20ft Cargo Worthy or Wind & Watertight is the easy fit. It locks securely overnight and handles the seasons, and a 20ft is the simplest size to have moved when the next site starts. For a commercial build with more stock to keep dry, a 40ft high cube adds length and a foot of headroom. Add a lockbox if the site is open at night.

Will the tilt-deck truck reach my Trent River shoreline property?

Usually, yes. Tilt-deck trailers manage gravel laneways, gentle grades and river-side driveways. Plan a clear path about 12 ft across, at least 14 ft of overhead room where the box comes off, and a level, drained spot for the container. Send photos of anything unusual when you order so the driver can plan the approach.

Do you deliver refrigerated containers (reefers) to Trenton?

Yes. We carry 20ft refrigerated containers and 40ft high cube reefers. Our 20ft reefer page lists a -30°C to +30°C temperature range and a 32-amp, 380/460-volt three-phase plug-in, so check your electrical service before the unit arrives. A Trenton reefer order arrives in the same 1 to 3 days as a dry box.

How long does a sea can last on a Trent-Severn Waterway property?

For decades, on a drained pad. The Trent River and the Bay of Quinte are fresh water, so there’s no salt-air corrosion to fight. Corten weathering steel forms a stable surface oxide that protects the metal underneath. Two things shorten a box’s life. One is a floor sitting in wet ground, which a gravel pad prevents. The other is a tired door gasket, which you can inspect each spring and replace. Our notes on keeping rust off a box by the water go further.

Are Facebook Marketplace shipping container listings safe to buy from?

Rarely. Military families new to the area can be a target because the storage need is urgent and they don’t know local sellers yet. The pattern is a listing priced below real yards, a deposit by e-transfer, and a delivery date that passes after the money can no longer be pulled back. Buy from a yard with an address you can verify, and pay on delivery rather than up front.

What payment methods does Van Blanc accept?

Draft cheque, cash, wire transfer, or credit card through our credit card authorization form. Payment is on delivery for outright purchases. We don’t ask for a deposit before the container is on your site, including on long-haul Eastern Ontario routes like Trenton.

Do you sell used sea containers for Trenton military-family and shoreline storage?

Yes. We sell used sea containers in Cargo Worthy and Wind and Water Tight grades for Trenton military-family and shoreline storage: secure, weather-tight steel for household goods, boats and seasonal gear. We’ll walk you through both grades, and As-Is if the budget calls for it, and send the box east to your address.

Can I keep a storage container on-site at a Trenton property between Air Force postings?

Yes. A storage container can stay on-site at a Trenton property between Air Force postings, holding household belongings and gear, locked and weather-tight, placed on a gravel pad by tilt-deck truck. You own it outright and keep it as long as you need.

Is there a container yard near Trenton or Belleville, or do you deliver from Brantford?

There is no Van Blanc yard near Trenton or Belleville; we deliver from our Brantford yards, 269 km west of Trenton. The Van Blanc yard you can walk before buying is at 90 Morton Avenue East in Brantford. Pick the exact box there, or we can show it to you on a video call.
