Penetrating oil products such as Krown and Rust Check sit in a third category. The protection program includes a penetrating-oil wand application into both forklift pockets and into each of the eight corner casting cavities. The reason yards use spray rigs rather than rattle cans is film thickness. A consumer aerosol lays down 0.2 mm to 0.3 mm of dry film per coat; you would need four to six passes to reach the 1 mm thickness an HVLP undercoat rig delivers in two. That means buying a case of aerosol cans for a single 20ft, plus a full Saturday on your back. A yard-applied program costs more than the do-it-yourself route but delivers measured film thickness, full cavity penetration, and a service-life guarantee.

DIY is a reasonable choice for:

  • A newly arrived one-trip container that is still factory-clean underneath.

DIY is the wrong choice for:
