Why the Unheated Garage Is a Trap

The most common scaling mistake is the unheated garage or outbuilding, and the extension services warn against it directly. Michigan State’s guidance explicitly advises not to store a worm bin in an unheated garage over winter and to hold the 55-to-77 F range indoors. An attached garage runs warmer than outside but still swings below the worms’ floor in an Ontario cold snap, and a detached shed offers no protection at all.
